Litter and Environment – BMPs and data to support production and industry growth
Shed and litter management practices such as litter tilling, litter reuse and on-farm fan activity can influence the in-shed air quality (atmospheric gases) and odour emissions on a farm. This project looks at how different litter management practices can influence air quality and then use this information to develop best management practice material to improve the knowledge and understanding of internal and external shed interactions. It will also develop baseline information for fan operation and odour emissions at meat chicken farms to improve the data available for assessing new or expanding farm developments. Odour emissions measurements will focus on events including litter conditioning, pickups and clean-outs and include peak emission times.
