Projects
Intensive Horticulture Advanced Technology Outreach and Adoption Program.
The project aimed to enhance the adoption of advanced agricultural technologies among vegetable growers in South Australia.
One of the primary activities was the Agtech Planning Event, which provided support and information to vegetable growers on implementing agtech on their properties. The workshop which was well-received by the industry with it helping 13 growers understand which emerging technologies to investigate and how to access support for trials within their businesses.
Another major component was the International Agtech Visit, where AUSVEG SA hosted Walt DuFlock, Vice President of Innovation at Western Growers. Walt's visit included meetings with growers across various regions, discussions on investment in agtech, and tours of local facilities. This visit facilitated valuable knowledge exchange and networking opportunities, strengthening relationships between South Australian growers and the international agtech community.
Additionally, the project supported on-farm demonstrations by Flux Robotics, which conducted trials on robotic and targeted spray weeding technology in field vegetable brassica crops. These trials showed promising results in weed suppression and highlighted the potential of this technology to reduce chemical costs and improve pesticide resistance.
Overall, the project successfully increased understanding and uptake of emerging agtech technologies in the South Australian vegetable sector. It facilitated valuable learning and extension activities, fostered international collaboration, and supported technology development, contributing to the ongoing growth and sustainability of the industry.
