Industry travel bursary to attend the Thirteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP13)

This project offered a travel bursary to encourage fishing industry representatives to attend CMS COP13 in India, the conference of parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals. An environmental treaty of the United Nation, CMS provides a global platform for the conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals and their habitats. The potential listing of School Shark as a migratory species is of concern to Australia, and the Department of Environment has strongly encouraged industry to attend the conference. Should this listing be ratified, significant impacts on the commercial and recreational fishing sectors was likely. The bursary provided a significant capacity building opportunity.
