Increasing Australia's preparedness for vvIBDV

Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) is responsible for major economic losses in the poultry industry worldwide. To date, strains endemic to Australia are distinct from those overseas but the accidental incursion of exotic IBDV strains, particularly very virulent IBDV (vvIBDV), poses a serious threat to the Australian Poultry Industry. This project will continue monitoring IBDV strains in Australia, including examining the pathogenicity and mode of spread of current strains, and enhance the preparedness of industry to respond to possible incursions.
