Improved oat varieties for hay production 2020
The National Oat Breeding Program was initiated in 1998 through a collaborative investment with the Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC), the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI), the Western Australia Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD [WA]) and industry. During 22 years of breeding improved oat varieties for hay production, advanced breeding lines were promoted to yield trials based on hay productivity, quality, disease resistance and agronomic traits. This report provides a historical perspective of the breeding program.
