Identifying the trends and drivers of water productivity in Australian cotton through benchmarking (includes CottonInfo technical lead)

This project is continuing the long-term monitoring of water use efficiency in the Australian cotton industry, to deliver annual water productivity benchmarks across the industry and within regions, for irrigated and dryland cotton. In addition, this project is investigating and developing new tools that better integrate sensor and data transfer technology to remove the burden from growers of record keeping associated with monitoring water use efficiency. Data that identifies current limitations in water productivity, whether biophysical (such as soil, rainfall and other climatic limitation within regions) or management (irrigation system, frequency, crop rotation) or information related (monitoring, best management) will be delivered to industry to improve water use efficiency and in doing so, contribute to CRDC’s goal of 1.32 bales/ML by 2023.
