Giant Pine Scale Chemical Control
Giant pine scale (Marchalina hellenica) is a scale insect that sucks the sap of pine trees. If established, the insect poses a threat to Australia’s softwood plantation industry by causing branch dieback, gradual desiccation and eventually tree death. This project aims to identify chemical control options suitable for plantation managers which will significantly reduce Giant Pine Scale abundance on infested trees, and contribute to slowing the rate of spread of this new plantation pest.
