Futures of Seafood. Wild. Aquaculture. Recreational. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

The "Futures of Seafood" study, spanning 18 months and developed in collaboration with industry and government, aims to comprehensively assess Australia's seafood system. Drawing on existing data and ongoing research, it will provide a detailed overview of the industry's current state, its supply chain dynamics, market reach, and community impacts. The study will identify and analyse trends, forecasts, and cumulative impacts affecting the seafood sector, integrating spatial mapping to profile industry sectors and jurisdictions. Additionally, it will map out other ocean uses, including emerging industries, and forecast their implications up to 2040. Scenario modelling tools will be developed to simulate future scenarios, evaluating impacts on productivity and sustainability metrics across social, economic, environmental, and governance dimensions. The study will culminate in the synthesis of findings into actionable insights and the creation of industry-specific assets to guide policy and strategic decisions, fostering resilience and innovation in the seafood industry.
