Fisheries Management: From Science to Sustainable Practices (program development)
Developing capability and capacity in fisheries management is crucial for sustainability in the fishing industry and aquaculture community. Global, national, and jurisdictional workforce challenges are impacting the recruitment and retention of fisheries managers, necessitating enhanced education and stakeholder engagement. In collaboration with Ian Knuckey, FRDC, and stakeholders, this project will design and pilot a roadmap for the "Fisheries Management: From Science to Sustainable Practices" program. The initiative aims to broaden stakeholder engagement and improve capability across the fishing and aquaculture sectors through accessible learning opportunities. Learning formats will include self-directed modules, hybrid approaches, and face-to-face workshops, adapting to various learning styles and industry needs. By leveraging DAWE/DAFF investment, the project aims to establish a learning hub for continuous capability development, providing clear pathways aligned with sustainable fisheries management goals.
