Facilitating Technology Solutions for Hilltops Farmers

The project aimed to support local farmers and landowners in their agtech journey by addressing connectivity issues and providing technology access solutions.

The project successfully identified and addressed one of the fundamental barriers to farm technology adoption in the region: inconsistent access to wi-fi, broadband, and mobile networks. By improving connectivity, the project enabled farmers to explore and adopt various technological applications to enhance their farming practices.

Key achievements of the project include:
  • Workshops and Bus Tours: The project organized three workshops and two full-day bus tours, which provided hands-on experience and exposure to different agtech solutions. These events covered topics such as connectivity solutions, crop production technologies, and livestock management technologies.
  • Consultations: A consultant was engaged to provide individual advice to farmers on improving their connectivity. Four farmers received assistance to set up better home/farm wi-fi, involving up to three visits per location.
  • Increased Interest and Adoption: The project saw almost 50 different producers attending at least one of the events. The level of interest in technology applications and motivation to seek out connectivity solutions grew over time, leading to several producers upgrading or purchasing new equipment.
  • Networking and Information Sharing: The events facilitated discussions and information sharing among HMLG members, which helped farmers make informed decisions for their businesses. The social connections developed during these events also contributed to the overall well-being of the farming community.
Overall, the project achieved its objective of supporting producers on their agtech journey by providing practical solutions to connectivity issues and inspiring them to adopt new technologies. The success of the project has generated interest among HMLG members to continue organizing similar workshops and field days in the future.
