Epidemiology and management of fusarium basal rot in onions

The objective of this project is to reduce the impact of the soilborne disease, fusarium basal rot on the Australian onion industry, particularly in South Australia where it has caused losses of up 30% in some years. The goal is to develop a best practice, cost effective, Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM) strategy that is based on improved understanding of the pathogen and its epidemiology; evaluation and refinement of chemical, bio-stimulant, biological and cultural controls; and with the capability to adjust management input according to disease risk.
