Durable resistance to oat crown rust (short term investment)

Oat is attacked by two rust diseases: crown rust and stem rust. The pathogens that cause these diseases do not infect other cereal crops. Crown rust reduces oat yield and causes thin kernels with low test weight - factors which greatly reduce milling quality. This investment supports a desktop analysis of the current situation of oat crown rust in Australia. It aims to provide breeders and researchers with information to enable development of control strategies for oat crown rust.
