Development of next generation evaporation mitigation technology with increased resistance to wind

Evaporation losses from farm water storages are the major loss of water on cotton farms, estimated to be between 20 – 40%. Monolayer technology has the potential to provide significant water savings and, being relatively cheap and easily applied to storages of different shapes and sizes, has a number of advantages in comparison to the use of enclosed structures. While the potential for ultra-thin monolayers to prevent evaporation in storages and potentially in irrigation channels is clear, current technologies fail when wind speeds exceed 3m/s. This investment will explore solutions to increase the effectiveness of monolayers at higher wind speeds (in excess of 3m/s).
