Developing strategies to mitigate and manage resistance to key herbicides

The overarching objective of this project is to provide new knowledge on the mechanisms and inheritance of herbicide resistance in key grain cropping weeds in Australia. Regionally effective strategies to manage and mitigate new herbicide resistance issues will then be developed and tested in the field. The weed species that this project will focus on include Ryegrass, Sowthistle, Brome grass, Wild radish, Indian hedge mustard, Flaxleaf fleabane, Barnyard grass, Feathertop Rhodes grass and Windmill grass. Herbicide resistance is dynamic and responds to farming system changes, weed evolution and chemistry development. New challenges to be overcome include strategies relevant to pre-emergent herbicides, non-selective herbicides and imidazolinone herbicide dominant rotations.
