Demonstration of safety, palatability, and efficacy of novel, sugarcane-derived feed ingredients in ruminants
Bagasse is the dry pulpy fibrous material that remains after crushing sugarcane to extract its juice, and the SRA has invested in new technologies to transform it into a nutritious animal feed ingredient.
This project will demonstrate the safety, palatability and efficacy of bagasse-derived modified fibre in a sheep feeding trial, develop models for demonstration-scale fibre production, and use these to produce business plans for domestic and export markets.
