Western Australian Pork Producers Association Agtech Up-take Project
The project aimed to facilitate the adoption of electronic data recording technologies among WA pork producers. The project focused on a variety of software options, including MetaFarms, Cloudfarms, PigPass, and the BCF Ultrasound app.
Key achievements of the project include:
Key achievements of the project include:
- Recruitment and Participation: ten farms, including a mix of large corporate, medium family, and small government farms, participated in the project.
- Software Implementation: successfully facilitated the use of selected software programs. Producers used the tablets for existing software such as PigPass, Elite Herd, and Cloudfarms.
- Evaluation and Feedback: the evaluation survey conducted at the end of the project revealed that while some farms had embraced electronic data recording, the majority still relied on paper-based records. The survey highlighted barriers to technology adoption, including previous poor experiences with new systems, cost of maintenance, and reliability of internet connectivity.
Overall, the project demonstrated that while there is enthusiasm for digital technologies among WA pork producers, significant barriers remain. The project highlighted the importance of ongoing support and training to encourage broader adoption of technology in the pork industry. The findings suggest that a more focused approach, such as providing intensive support to a single producer, may be more effective in achieving technology uptake.
