Data for the Future

The project aimed to enhance livestock data collection and analysis among grazing businesses in the Gulf Savannah region. The initiative involved a series of activities designed to educate and support producers in adopting data-driven decision-making practices.

One of the key events was the Showcase Tour, which provided hands-on experience in livestock data collection, featuring live demonstrations and interactive sessions with various service providers. Participants learned about different data collection methods and technologies and had the opportunity to use the equipment themselves. The tour concluded with a session on data analysis, where producers worked on business plans and set goals for data collection and technology implementation.

The project also included follow-up support for the 19 businesses that participated in the tour. This support led to several tangible outcomes, such as properties starting to tag their herds for individual animal data collection, engaging with analytics service providers and the purchasing of equipment. Additionally, the project officer engaged with six other grazing businesses through industry events, providing one-on-one support in areas such as business planning, herd management, and data analysis.

Overall, the project successfully reached 23 grazing properties, covering over 2.6 million hectares in the Northern Gulf Region. It significantly improved the capacity of these businesses to utilize technology and data for better decision-making and management practices. The project also highlighted the importance of ongoing support and education in fostering technology adoption in the agricultural sector.
