CRC Northern Australia - Biosecurity in northern Australian prawn aquaculture

The threat of both endemic and exotic pathogens is now the biggest management issue facing the Australian prawn farming industry. Previous industry biosecurity risk assessments provide an inadequate base on which to capture real threats. To rectify this, the current project will undertake an on-farm biosecurity review to: - identify and list the diversity of known pathogenic organisms present in Australian prawn hatcheries and farms; and - investigate on farm emerging pathogens/biosecurity incidents. The project will produce an industry-wide risk biosecurity situation report.
