Collecting data to support accreditation of the SOMA device for higher intramuscular fat scores in lamb

The SOMA device will provide processors with the opportunity to quickly delve into quantifying the IMF scores of individual cuts to a higher level of accuracy. The SOMA device offers industry a cheaper portable option for determining IMF. However currently the SOMA device is only currently accredited from 3.5-8%. The aim of this project is to accredit the device up to 12 % IMF. Once accredited up to a higher level, the device will be useful in developing eating quality measures and marketing for sales, production and livestock teams. The work to accredit SOMA up to 12 % IMF will also support the potential to upgrade to MEQ camera to offer a higher throughput solution which will compliment the current work with the SOMA device.
