Carbon Abatement and Storage - Kangaroo Grazing Systems
Livestock industries contribute 10 per cent of Australia’s greenhouse gas liability in form of methane emissions from digestion. Better management of grazing pressures by both livestock and kangaroos can enable vegetation regrowth and soil conservation to generate offsets. This project will describe how integrated kangaroo management and lower domestic stocking rates can deliver carbon credits that supplement landholder incomes. The benefits come from both improved grazing management and soil conservation, and from the production of low-emission meat from a proportion of their pasture in lieu of meat from conventional domestic livestock.
