Capability and Capacity Building - Scientific Networking & Early Career Development (Australian Society for Fish Biology)
The Australian Society for Fish Biology (ASFB) sought non-competitive sponsorship from FRDC to enhance its capacity and promote scientific networking and early career development in the field of fish and fisheries in Australasia. ASFB aimed to sustain its annual conference and support students and early career researchers (ECRs) while advancing engagement with First Nations peoples and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. Key initiatives included funding travel bursaries for student participation, establishing a First Nations working group, and hosting sessions on diversity in fisheries. ASFB also proposed a travel bursary program for fisheries managers to overcome financial barriers, fostering collaboration and innovation across the industry. The society valued inclusivity and aimed to support its volunteer members through professional administration and funding support for essential operational activities.
