Building an advanced genomics platform for Australian horticulture

To remain competitive in international and domestic markets, industries need to boost the current rate of genetic improvement of crops. Advances in genomics have led to the generation of methods, including whole genome sequences, genotypes, diversity, and allele mining, that improve the capacity and accuracy of desirable trait selection. This project aims to accelerate the genetic improvements possible in banana, custard apple, papaya, passionfruit, and pineapple by deploying cutting-edge genomic technology that expand our knowledge of the genetic resources available for researchers to utilise in crop breeding programs, to improve the timelines to achieve desired breeding outcomes.
