BGGA Agtech Opportunities Study
The project aimed to initiate interest among regional producers in utilising technology on farms and increase their knowledge of the Agtech environment.
One of the major events was the BGGA Innovation Day, held at the Bowen research station. Initially planned as a smaller demonstration, the event expanded due to significant interest from the local agricultural industry and technology vendors. The Innovation Day featured 22 technology vendors showcasing precision agriculture, connectivity solutions, biological controls, farm software, tracking, VR/AR technology, drones, automation, robotics, data collection, and irrigation management. Over 160 participants, including producers, industry stakeholders, government representatives, and STEM students, attended the event.
The project also included a Producer Workshop, which focused on understanding farm data. The workshop was rescheduled to support better attendance and provided valuable insights into data management and technology implementation.
Another key component was the Producer Study Tour, which aimed to expose attendees to new Agtech available in Australia. The tour included visits to the EvokeAG. event in Adelaide, site visits, and demonstrations, enhancing collaboration and knowledge sharing among regional producers.
The project was evaluated through participant feedback, which indicated high satisfaction and increased knowledge in key technology areas. The BGGA Innovation Day led to business arrangements for robotic technology and a commercial trial of autonomous vehicle technology in the Bowen region.
Overall, the project successfully increased awareness and adoption of technology in the region, supported by significant interest from technology vendors and local schools. It highlighted the importance of targeted support and practical demonstrations in fostering technology adoption among producers.
