Automated beef carcase racking sortation system driven by objective measurement
This project will develop, test and install a new beef carcase racking system using RFID to test its robustness, objective measurement will be integrated into the automated sorting system, providing an enabling tool to optimise automation such as beef scribing. It will encompass an MEQ probe at the grading station to measure intramuscular fat for initial pre grading. The system will allow for initial automated sorting from the grading station into 5 carcase chillers and then an automated sorting from these chillers into a large marshalling chiller after the cold chiller assessment and grading is complete, and before entering the boning room. This system will eliminate 4 chiller hands and allow for much more efficiency and accuracy in the boning room. This will be unique to the Australian beef processing industry and reduce labour requirements as well as better yield and efficiency in boning. RFID tracking systems providing an imperative traceability tool.
