AMSEA Management, Admin & Report 2025-27

This project continues the work to provide Executive support for the management, administration and reporting of the Merino Sire Evaluation in Australia. The Australian Merino Sire Evaluation (AMSEA) acts as a key organisation committed to genetic improvement in the Merino industry, by in summary providing a platform for the following: - Collection of a wide range of visual, classer (34), and objective (11) traits on older age assessments and improved genetic evaluation of leading merinos; - for those ram breeders in the ASBV system, a merino reference flock for those older age wool, carcass, welfare and reproduction traits and new traits such as methane and feed efficiency; - for those ram breeders focused on within flock breeding values and range of site reports and site updates along with compulsory field days where the unselected progeny are put on display - for those outside of the ASBV system, a means by which they can become sufficiently linked for a DNA Flock Profile and the soon to be released genomic assessments for individual animals; - means to collect phenotypes, evaluate and commercialise new traits, (in the past this has been done for worm egg count, wrinkle, dag, cover, wool colour, fleece rot, wool character, and in the future for udder scores, lamb survival, methane, feed efficiency, breech and body strike); - means to introduce growers to Breeding Value technology and how to best collect the data; - means for growers to gain linkage to MERINOSELECT; - means to run R&D projects cheaply with industry engagement and oversight such as the MLP, MLP add on projects and Breech and Body Strike breeding values; - a communication avenue for breeders to collectively engage and consult with MERINOSELECT (service, indexes, new traits), MLA and AWI and genetics R&D in general
