Air inversion modelling to manage spray drift

For many pesticides it is an Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) mandatory requirement not to spray when inversions exist. To comply, applicators currently rely on basic clues to detect inversions which inevitably lead to many missed events and false alarms. Utilising a risk index as a guide to spray conditions rather than when an inversion exists has the potential to greatly enhance capability of making wise spray decisions and enable greater hours of safe operation. This investment establishes the required observation network capable of inversion detection and additional factors to determine a risk index.
