Addressing Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) for Australian egg industry

This study addresses an industry need to better understand and mitigate the impact of Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) in layer chickens. By utilising a large sample collection of over 5,000 E. coli strains; an extensive dataset from both healthy and sick birds; and farm information, the project aims to improve disease management by differentiating pathogenic and non-pathogenic strains. This will enable targeted interventions, such as vaccines or probiotics, to reduce disease severity and enhance flock health.
