SMA Research and Technology (SMART) Pty Ltd is a research and development company established in 2024 by SMA Marketing Pty Ltd. SMART was established to identify, develop & commercialise technologies to measure the ripeness of watermelons. 

SMA Marketing was founded in 2013 by watermelon farmers across Australia to ensure supply of watermelons all year round. SMART Pty Ltd has 14 shareholders, 7 of whom are watermelon growers.
