Fresh Produce Safety Centre
The Fresh Produce Safety Centre (FPSC) is an independent, industry-led organisation that serves as the leading resource for food safety guidance across the fresh produce value chain in Australia and New Zealand. We drive innovation through science-based research, foster collaboration, and rapidly respond to emerging risks in the agrifood sector.
Our purpose is to create, connect, and sustain independent, evidence-based food safety solutions to support a safe, resilient, and thriving fresh produce industry. We do this by listening to industry needs, driving coordinated research, and translating scientific findings into practical tools and resources that support real-world application.
FPSC contributes to innovation in Australian agrifood through three key focus areas:
-
Research and Development – We coordinate and support applied research projects that address current and emerging food safety risks, ensuring outcomes are both scientifically sound and practically relevant.
-
Innovation – By translating science into actionable guidance, providing rapid crisis support, and spotlighting emerging food safety trends, we help industry stakeholders anticipate and manage challenges effectively.
-
Collaboration – We convene industry leaders, academics, and international experts through symposia and strategic engagement, creating a unified platform for cross-sector knowledge sharing and solution building.
Our core interest lies in the fresh produce industry, where we actively work with growers, processors, retailers, and foodservice providers to enhance food safety outcomes. We are open to collaboration with other agrifood sectors that intersect with fresh produce safety, including water management, supply chain logistics, and agricultural technology providers.
FPSC continues to play a vital role in strengthening the integrity and global competitiveness of Australia’s agrifood system through research, innovation, and partnership.
