ASHEEP & BEEF
ASHEEP & BEEF is a grower group with a core focus on raising sheep and cattle production standards and maximising the profitability and sustainability of livestock systems. Established in 2003 by farmers in the Esperance region of Western Australia, the group has members spanning the Esperance Port Zone and an increasing presence across the south and south-west of WA.
ASHEEP & BEEF’s work centres on promoting best practice, driving innovation through research projects, and delivering trials, demonstrations, and extension activities that respond to opportunities and challenges faced by producers. The association plays an active role in building industry partnerships and strengthening networks across the livestock sector.
The grower group is led by a committee of twelve farmers who ensure that activities undertaken will be impactful for the region and align with ASHEEP & BEEF’s Strategic Plan. Committee members bring expertise across different farming enterprise systems and environmental conditions, and have a range of skill sets, connections and industry positions that strengthen the organisation.
The Esperance region covers a wide variety of rainfall zones and soil types. Producers in our group predominantly run mixed livestock / cropping enterprises. Cattle are typically beef cattle. Sheep production systems involve a range including merinos, crossbreds, and shedding sheep.
Originally formed as ASHEEP (Association for Sheep Husbandry, Excellence, Evaluation and Production), the association soon after brought on a cattle committee and was renamed ASHEEP & BEEF in 2023 to reflect its work with beef production systems. We are a not-for-profit, incorporated association.
