Metrovate: Next-Gen Precision Biostimulants for Covered Crops - seeking partners

Opportunity for

  • Commercial partners, growers, nurseries, industry collaborators and strategic investors interested in trialling and validating next-generation precision biostimulants for protected and covered cropping systems.

  • Covered crop growers (e.g. glasshouse horticulture) seeking improvements in yield consistency, resilience and plant performance

Industry challenge

Horticultural producers are facing increasing pressure from rising input costs, soil degradation, regulatory constraints and tightening margins. While yield improvement remains important, many growers are more acutely impacted by preventable yield loss, inconsistency in crop performance and vulnerability to environmental and biological stressors.

Traditional crop inputs, conventional biostimulants, often rely on broad, inefficient chemistry that can deliver variable results, increase costs and introduce sustainability concerns. At the same time, growers are increasingly cautious about adopting new technologies without clear, practical validation under real production conditions.

This challenge is particularly pronounced in protected cropping systems, where growers require predictable, dependable outcomes and solutions that integrate seamlessly into existing production practices. The industry needs tools that enhance plant physiology and resilience in a targeted way, without adding complexity or undue risk.

Precision, biologically aligned solutions that work with natural plant growth pathways represent a significant opportunity to address these challenges.

Current opportunity

Metrovate is a New Zealand-based Agtech company developing precision biostimulants using computationally designed peptides that activate natural plant growth and signalling pathways.

In the near term, we are looking to collaborate with:

  • Covered crop growers and nurseries willing to participate in early adoption or pilot trials, we see a particular opportunity inIndustry partners interested in co-development, formulation optimisation or commercialisation pathways
  • Strategic investors aligned with a science-led, platform-based Agtech opportunity, who can also potentially support with market access as we scale

Ideal industry partners will bring access to commercial growing environments, practical insights into grower decision-making, and a willingness to trial innovative solutions at an early stage.

In return, partners gain early access to a novel class of precision-designed biostimulants that have demonstrated strong lab-based efficacy, including significant improvements in biomass and root development at extremely low application rates. This creates the potential for improved consistency, resilience and productivity, alongside attractive unit economics and long-term commercial upside.

This stage of engagement is focused on building robust validation, generating real-world data and shaping a scalable pathway to market.

Opportunity background

The company has built a strong scientific platform combining protein modelling, AI-driven refinement and rapid laboratory validation.

Metrovate has developed multiple candidate biostimulants based on novel peptides discovered by our team. Metrovate has engaged with a range of growers, industry stakeholders and investors, and holds early commercial interest. The team brings deep expertise across plant physiology, peptide science and computational biology.

Potential other applications

While Metrovate’s initial focus is on covered cropping systems and nursery applications, the underlying platform has potential relevance across a range of agricultural and horticultural contexts.

In the longer term, precision peptide biostimulants could support:

  • Outdoor cropping systems, through co-formulation and partnerships with large agribusinesses
  • Reduced input costs by improving nutrient use efficiency and plant resilience
  • Crop-specific solutions tailored to different growth stages, stress responses or quality outcomes

The venture  is intentionally taking a staged approach, prioritising focus and validation in its initial markets while building a scalable technology base that can expand into adjacent sectors over time through strategic partnerships.

Metrovate is seeking investors and partners to support early validation, pilot trials and commercial engagement for its precision peptide biostimulant platform.
