Supporting better decision-making through increasing farmers data-based knowledge
This project aims to increase the adoption of soil moisture probes and weather stations
to provide farmers with data-based knowledge to support better decision-making during
the season in response to seasonal drought and changing conditions across the
Wheatbelt region of Western Australia (WA).
At a landscape scale, the project will demonstrate how cooperation between farms within
a region and across a landscape can dramatically increase the relevance and quality of
data for each farm.
A key project outcome is to turn high-resolution hyperlocal and landscape-scale climate,
rainfall and soil moisture data quality into practical and relevant insights to support farm
input and crop /pasture rotation decision-making. This will be achieved through real-time
data visualisation and a well-supported extension program. With technology
developments localised weather forecasting using each weather station will be possible.
Demonstrations and case studies will be completed to demonstrate the benefit of using
data-driven decision-making processes.
