Rabbits Research and Development
Rabbits are Australian agriculture’s most costly vertebrate pest animal. Research has led to biocontrol programs which have been extremely effective in reducing rabbit numbers. This investment is AWI’s contribution to the Centre of Invasive Species Solutions, specifically for projects RHD-Boost Plus and RHD accelerator. RHD refers to Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease virus and this work explores the potential of RHDV2 to complement existing biocontrol agents through a series of experimental studies. This collaborative project plays an important role understanding the potential use of this virus as a future rabbit biocontrol agent.
