Push Notifications to enable proactive management of pests, weeds and diseases

The Australian grains industry will benefit from the delivery of a push notification system which will provide alerts on the incidence, prevalence and distribution of crop pests and diseases. By connecting the notification system to the best sources of intelligence, the project will expand the range of communication channels over which alerts can be issued, personalise information being disseminated to maximise relevance and roll out the service to all Australian grain growing regions.

For growers and advisers, information generated from the system will deliver a range of decision-making benefits, including being able to verify whether spray or other prophylactic interventions are warranted before crops are affected. For chemical suppliers, early warning should enable better management of inventory to ensure continuity of supply. Users will have the ability to opt-in to receive notifications pushed to them on their medium of choice. The service will also include mandatory emergency notifications, determined by location which will notify users exotic disease outbreaks, cross-species disease outbreaks, chemical recalls and other relevant issues.
