Pan design and operational changes to suit australian pan stages operating on low pressure

In order to maximise potential revenue from bagasse, Australian sugar mills will need to become more steam efficient. This project is investigating the design changes that will be required in order for the pan stage to operate effectively with lower steam pressure. Using a combination of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and factory testing, the project aims to identify improvements to pan design, changes that can be retrofitted to existing pans, changes to pan feed systems, changes to pan boiling flowschemes, and changes to the control profiles for massecuite brix to increase the sugar deposition rates on low pressure vapour.
