Our Pledge: Australian seafood industry response to community values and expectations

The Australian seafood industry has clearly identified social licence and community perceptions as a critical issue for its ongoing viability and prosperity. This project aims to develop a clearer understanding of community values, industry values and underpinning behaviours and to then identify areas where the industry’s “social licence” is threatened.

The project involves both research and extension to identify:

  • industry and community values to aid more effective engagement;
  • industry behaviours and practices that do/don’t reflect stated values;
  • changes in industry behaviour needed to meet community expectations;
  • how changes in these values and behaviours can be monitored and tracked over time against industry’s stated goals.

    This information will be used in the development, trialling, and evaluation of the effectiveness of extension products designed to support extension of a clear and well-articulated industry position responding to community concerns, perceptions and values.
