Management and diagnosis of grapevine trunk disease in vineyards and nurseries
Management and diagnosis of grapevine trunk disease in vineyards and nurseries.
The objectives of this project are to:
- Monitor inoculum dispersal - Generate knowledge on spore dispersal of GTD pathogens in different climatic regions and determine the local distribution of spores within vineyards and impact of management regimes.
- Investigate wound susceptibility - Determine susceptibility wounds to GTD pathogens during dormancy in new climatic regions, fllowing pruning activities and hail damage in spring.
- Optimise diagnostic capability - Enhance and adapt molecular diagnostic tools for effective detection of GTD and YVD pathogens in the vineyard and nursery.
- Evaluate biocontrols for sustainable disease management - Evaluate potential biocontrol strategies for pruning wound protection and reducing infection in propagation material.
- Examine thresholds of infection on vine establishment - Assess source blocks and propagation material for YVD infection and evaluate varying levels of infection on vine establishment.
- Clarify role of Cryptovalsa - Examine the extent of Cryptovalsa ampelina in vineyards, pathogenicity in grapevine and the efficacy of registered wound treatments.
