Intensive Horticulture Advanced Technology Outreach and Adoption Program.

The Intensive Horticulture Advanced Technology Outreach and Adoption Program seeks to link
intensive horticultural and vegetable producers with commercially-available international technology and newly developed Australian R&D to assist their businesses. Accessing
international and domestic technology continues to be a challenge for intensive horticultural producers. These efforts are largely piecemeal and the industry lacks a coordinated approach to linking local growers to international expertise. The South Australian vegetable industry is worth $2 billion per annum and comprises the largest protected cropping region in the Southern Hemisphere on the Northern Adelaide plains and  a significant proportion of Australia's fresh potato and onion production in the Mallee and South East. Growers continue to face challenges in accessing technology as Australia is seen as a "small market" and, as a result our protected cropping industry is roughly 15 years behind the Netherlands in terms of technological adoption and our potato industry lags behind Europe and the US in adoption of technologies such as end of packing line robotics. This project will address these issues by implementing a comprehensive international technology outreach and adoption program which will bring international researchers to SA to work with our industry and improve uptake.
