Fertility of sexed ram semen 18/19
The ability to pre-select the production of male or female lambs will provide a number of benefits to the Australian wool industry. Sex pre-selection can streamline flock management, reduces the costs associated with progeny testing, allows producers to focus selection on a ewe line, and can improve the rate of genetic gain under certain breeding strategies. The positive results achieved by this project with liquid sexed semen have had global impact, providing the final piece of evidence needed by a US artificial breeding company to buy the rights to distribute sexed ram semen from Sexing Technologies. This has resulted in, for the first time, a commercial sexed semen product being launched in the USA and Australia, distributing fresh and frozen sexed ram semen doses for artificial insemination.
