Environmental risk assessment and life cycle assessment of raw sugar manufacturing

Life cycle assessment (LCA) measures the environmental impacts in all stages of a product's life, from raw material through processing, manufacture, distribution and use, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This project has two stages - to assess the environmental risks in the whole sugarcane supply chain, review past sugar LCAs and make recommendations for a new LCA study; and to design the new LCA to reflect the environmental and health impacts of the raw sugar value chain. This in turn will identify opportunities for improvement, contribute to industry sustainability reporting, and ensure the industry's social licence to operate.
