Development of best practice guidance for protective guarding of mobile plant used in Australian forests

This project intends to create and implement a Best Practice Guideline for guarding of machinery used in Australia's forest industry. It has arisen from industry wide concern expressed in relation current standards and inconsistencies in guarding of machinery used in Australia’s forest industry, with specific consideration of the following situations: Protection from a falling tree, chain-shot, from logs entering cabin (skidders and forwarders), from spars entering cabin (dozers) and adequacy of emergency exits. The final intention is to produce a publish ready, Best Practice Guideline, which AFPA will make available tor the industry. This project intends to implement necessary changes within the forestry industry, with the intention of creating safer systems of work for machinery operations.
