Calibration and accreditation of the SOMA device to measure IMF in sheepmeat
Soma Optics, Ltd is a Japanese supplier of near infrared technologies to assess meat quality characteristics in livestock. This project will support the final calibration of three SOMA devices to predict intramuscular fat (IMF) in Australian sheepmeat, which is an indicator of eating quality factors such as tenderness, juiciness and flavour. Once calibrated, the SOMA devices must be AUS-MEAT accredited to be used in abattoirs, and the project will explore opportunities for Australian distribution.
