Best practice manual for growing pomegranates in Australia

Commercial production of pomegranates in Australia began in the early 2000s and the Australian industry has now been identified as
an emerging rural industry with high growth potential. The market for Australian pomegranates is growing and includes whole fresh fruit, juices, ready-to-eat and frozen arils, and nutraceuticals. Significant opportunity for the Australian industry exists – the global demand for pomegranate has increased in recent years, while the ability to market a counter-seasonal product into the northern hemisphere creates a new market advantage.

The development of a best practice manual has been identified as a priority by the industry to help current and future growers produce pomegranates in a sustainable and efficient way. This project will to develop a manual for the pomegranate industry, through thorough desktop research and stakeholder consultation, that identifies best practice management of pomegranate production, to support future development of the Australian industry.
