Advancing apple orchard systems

This project will develop “smarter” apple orchards to improve apple quality and maximise apple yield whilst increasing labour efficiency. The aim is to improve orchard management by using sensing systems to monitor fruit development and explore opportunities for robotic harvesting. Strategies to adapt to changes in climate including reviewing planting densities and rootstock will be developed. The work will focus on new technology and advanced management systems and apply integrated biological management to pests, diseases and soil.
