Advanced livestock data insights for improved producer use

There are a number of industry facilitated databases that collect data on livestock, carcases and animal health. Many of these databases are in the process of being linked which will provide the opportunity for enhanced feedback systems.

Previous LDL research projects have demonstrated that it is possible to aggregate data into informative insight dashboards, based on a number of criteria including location, breed and production type etc. However, these dashboards still require significant refinement and trialling with industry participants to enhance usability and generate the opportunity for management and genetic change in red meat livestock value chains. Such refinements include the generation of more intuitive and interactive dashboards that allow greater customisation by users to their personal requirements.

These dashboards also require logic mapping to produce flowcharts of usage that can then be used to construct navigation pathways and narratives. Furthermore, at an industry level there is the opportunity to produce sequences of time or trait orientated decision support tools that provide industry snapshots of change opportunities.

Implantable RFID for cattle - Commercial Supply Chain trials

Based on the positive results that come out of the limited field trials completed on implantable RFID devices, it was recommended that further supply chain trials were undertaken to expand on this work to address the remaining adoption barriers for an implantable RFID device.
