ONE Basin Cooperative Research Centre (CRC)

The One Basin CRC is a focused collaboration developing policy, technical and financial solutions to support and reduce exposure to climate, water and environmental threats in the Murray-Darling Basin.

To date, this research collaboration has secured approximately $150m in resources over the next 10 years to drive major social, economic, and environmental impacts in regional areas, agriculture and irrigation technologies.

The CRC is working closely with agricultural producers, rural R&D corporations, agribusinesses, Governments and First Nations to better enable Basin industries and communities to identify, design, develop and adopt innovative solutions to create resilient and robust regional communities.

The CRC will form operational plans around the following challenge areas:

Challenge 1: Building capacity to confront climate change together

  • Co-develop, demonstrate and scale the tools and processes for partners and communities to confront climate change projections of a hotter, more variable future and co-design transition options that support productive, resilient and sustainable regions.

Challenge 2: Capturing value from digital technologies to support the irrigated agriculture sector

  • Enhance the value and adoption of digital technologies on farm and across the value chain to enable end-users to capture value from those technologies and boost profitability, sustainability and resilience of their businesses.

CHALLENGE 3: Enhancing water supply system to deliver for multiple uses

  • Develop water infrastructure policy, design and operation options that allow water supply operators to increase the capacity of their water supplies to meet multiple water uses.

CHALLENGE 4: Realising value from within rural industries and communities

  • Increasing value from the implementation of sustainable, resilient and inclusive strategies and innovations, through development of innovation knowledge and networks, market awareness, design, access and development and strengthening social licenses.
