Murdoch University

Murdoch has an ambitious Agriculture, Food and Beverage research and education agenda both locally and internationally, with more than 25,000 students and 2,400 staff across campuses in the Perth area, Peel region, and centres in Singapore and Dubai. “Our research makes a real difference ‘in the field’, because that’s where we do most of it.”

Our Food Futures Institute is working to improve the accessibility and availability of sufficient, safe, sustainably produced and nutritious food. Our successes range from MSA certification of beef and lamb quality; double cropping; reduced tillage practices; to creating better Wagyu marbled beef, and better malting barley for beer.

Recent developments include the successful Food Science and Nutrition course and the establishment, in the WA Food Innovation Precinct, of the Food Technology Facility, a multi-million dollar investment that will be a common user facility, intertwined with research and technical expertise, as a key component of the industrial ecosystem and to increase the performance of the F&B industry in the State.

We have active participation in industry collaborations across the agri-business sector, including a leadership role in the [Future Food Systems Cooperative Research Centre] (https://www.futurefoodsystems.com.au/). This includes the resources of the Australian National Phenome Centre and its capacities for deep food nutrition analytics and molecular fingerprinting.
