Opportunity description
Industry challenge
Currently, for equine purposes, planar X-rays are useful for examining lameness, fractures, wounds, etc. on a limb, however they do not provide sufficient details for diagnosing issues that require more detailed imaging, that usually requires CT, MRI, or ultrasound scanning, such as micro-fractures and related soft tissue issues.
There is growing demand for equine X-rays both in racehorses and performance horses. Veterinary CT and MRI are expensive and not widely available and are not easily accessible for large animals like horses.
XR-Vet have developed a technology in the form of a filter that is retro-fitted to existing machines (CT or planar X-ray machines) and a web-based processing tool that provides enhanced multi-modal X-ray images and has potential to expand into the use of AI. This technology has the potential to drastically improve diagnostic capabilities by providing clearer visibility of minor rotations, some soft tissue injuries and micro-fractures. Additionally, using our filter we have determined that there is a reduction in dosage, an added attraction.
Current opportunity
Following completion of a successful round of trials, XR-Vet are now accepting EOIs from thoroughbred and equine veterinary and radiologist groups who are interested in participating in the next round of field trials to improve and validate their prototype technology to a commercial offering.
Trial partners will have first access to the technology and other benefits to be negotiated.
XR-Vet are also seeking interest from Angel, Family offices, VC’s and other strategic investors^, to support the next stage of development into a commercially viable product. We are also interested in engaging with trainers and owners to discuss what value they see this technology will provide.
Given the importance of thoroughbred horse health assessment, this technology offers significant advancements in animal welfare and has strong domestic and international commercial potential.

Opportunity background
Initially the development of this technology targets thoroughbred horses’ lower limb diagnostics. We expect, upon introduction of this first product, to develop this solution for diagnostics in other areas of the horse including the back, hindquarters, and mouth/dental.
Potential other applications
XR-Vet anticipate that this technology could be developed for use in diagnostics of other animals.
The tech could also be transitioned to use in human medical diagnosis. Primarily in regional and remote communities where access to CT and MRI is not available.
It is a disruptive technology to the most used imaging approach in the world, X-ray, while not significantly disrupting the process of screening routinely used.
