Current opportunity:
Australasian Pork Research Institute Ltd (APRIL) is seeking proposals for commercialisation projects from solution providers or innovators including startups, SMEs, researchers or others. APRIL co-invest with research and commercial entities to bring a technology, product and/or service that supports the sustainability of the Australasian pork industry to market. Projects are assessed in terms of return on investment.
APRIL staff have deep research and development expertise in Australia and global experience in intellectual property commercialisation. APRILs members include Australasia's largest vertically integrated pork producers, universities, funding bodies, animal health science corporates and feed industry. This enables APRIL to support the commercialisation of novel technologies that are adopted by industry.
Applicant requirements:
- external cash component comprising of 20% of the total cash project cost
- project duration is negotiable if greater than 12 months is required
This call for Commercialisation Projects is open all year round. Applicants should complete and submit the Commercialisation Project Proposal form and the Budget and Milestones template.

Opportunity background:
An independent, member-based entity, APRIL seeks to enhance the Australasian pork industry by investing in research and development, education and training, and commercialisation activities focused on priorities and deliverables that ensure the sustainability of Australasian pork production, and to generate optimal returns for its stakeholders.
APRIL Commercialisation Projects have led to a number of commercial income streams derived from innovative technologies positively impacting many facets of industry including feed grain assessment, animal welfare, animal nutrition and health.
AusScan Online for instance is a partnership between a leading independent NIR calibration and development company, Aunir UK Ltd and APRIL. The AusScan Online website provides global access to unique in vivo energy calibrations for cereal grains and reactive lysine calibrations for soya and canola meals.
Additionally, APRIL has licensed agreements with commercial partners to provide APRIL technology enhancing animal welfare (Ridley Enrichment block), nutritional supplements (BEC's Piglet Buddy) and animal health (APIAM Lawsonia qPCR diagnostic test).
