Single Agriculture: Single Shot UAV Weed Mapping – investment opportunity

Single Shot drone mapping a paddock, Coonamble, NSW.

Opportunity for

  • Product distribution and retail agribusiness partnerships
  • Equity investment to support capital expenditure to continue company expansion domestically and overseas
  • Equity investment and commercial partnerships to further product research and development for wider applications.
  • Possible partnership/integration with larger retail agribusiness and machinery manufacturers

Opportunity Description

Industry challenge:

As broadacre farmers ourselves, we were dissatisfied with the performance and capability of products that were on the market for selective spraying of weeds. After 10 years of research and development, Single Shot is the first commercial scale application of drone technology for green on brown weed mapping which can be plugged straight into sprayer equipment to target weeds.

By targeting only weeds in fallow situations (so-called green on brown), chemical use is reduced, and environmental impact is also minimised. In addition, if chemical-resistant weeds are detected during weed mapping, the higher-cost chemicals designed for those weeds can be used more selectively.

Market size of approximately, 8,000 units in Australia. Expansion into the United States is underway with the first unit to be delivered to the US in September this year. The US market is at least triple the size of Australia.

Current opportunity:

Single Agriculture is seeking engagement from equity investors and commercial partners to support product refinement to reduce production costs and increase system capabilities and commercial partners with distribution or retail networks that could support sales growth, demonstrations, and marketing.

The Single Shot technology is market ready and in commercial use at several broadacre operations across Queensland and New South Wales

R&D partners and investors could assist in expanding the technology beyond green-on-brown identification to green-on-green, or weeds in crops. This would be a larger and lucrative market. The drone can operate autonomously, however, CASA regulations currently require line-of-sight to be maintained by an operator.

Opportunity background:

This is the only commercially operating technology that performs commercially viable broadacre scale weed mapping by drone. The system is reliably identifying 4 cm weeds @200 ha / hour. The equipment consists of a drone, sensor, and specially designed software - with a dedicated laptop also recommended.

Single Shot can map 1,500 hectares a day. An important difference to drone based alternatives is how the data is processed. Instead of relying on mobile connectivity, which can be variable on-farm, Single Shot processes the data it captures in the field – up to 2TB a day - on the dedicated laptop for a quick turnaround. Furthermore, while other products might have compatibility issues, Single Shot is compatible with the major brands of spraying machinery.

Single Shot presents a powerful tool in simulating spot spay events providing percentage of area to be sprayed before the spray event. In addition, weeds can be selected on size so a blanket plus a spot can be performed in one pass or two spot spay rates on different size weeds. With its capacity to cover ground quickly for minimal cost, sprayed fields can be scouted for escaped or herbicide resistance weeds, then treatment method can be selected.
